What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese Medicine that is a safe and effective way to treat pain, anxiety, and stress in the body. Working with a trained acupuncturist can give you the benefits of understanding your state of physical and emotional health from a holistic approach. Does acupuncture focus on specific symptoms such as back pain, headache, or anxiety? Yes, acupuncture is great for helping those types of symptoms in the body. However, even more important than quieting the symptom is to help the individual understand the situations and circumstances that are contributing to the symptom in the first place.

    Why Acupuncture at Crofton Yoga?

Here at Crofton Yoga we understand that people and lives are complicated. So many times we look for “THE ONE ANSWER” that will solve all our upset. Trouble is life is seldom that simple or straight forward. That is why our acupuncturist Steve Smith calls upon his diverse background of western military medicine as a medic in the Air Force, his years of Chinese Medicine, his years as a mental health as counselor, and his training in functional medicine to give him a unique perspective on people and how to help their situations.

    Acupuncture Side Effects

While some patients will not experience any side effects, a few are actually quite common. Following is a list of the most frequently reported side effects:

    • Fatigue
    • Bruising & soreness at needle sites
    • Mild muscle twitching
    • Emotional release
    • Lightheadedness

For many patients trying acupuncture for the first time, it’s common to ask “does acupuncture hurt?” Typically, the answer is no, though some patients report feeling the needles as they are placed in the skin. It’s important to remember that the needles are very thin, and are not hollow like hypodermic needles. This allows them to enter the skin with very little or no discomfort.

In the West, more and more people are finding the benefits are alternative and holistic healing. Of the treatments and therapies, acupuncture is perhaps one of the most accepted. The National Institute of Health estimates more than eight million adults in the US use acupuncture, and the number is growing.

Mindfulhealing is a unique acupuncture clinic, as we offer a range of Traditional Chinese Medicine and holistic medical treatments. Having treated hundreds of patients for everything from sports injuries and back pain to migraine headaches, we’ve become known for empowering patients and getting them back to living life on their terms – pain free and healthy.

The body’s energy runs along meridian lines that correspond to different organs and areas. So it only makes sense to treat injuries and ailments based on the corresponding meridian. From sciatica and sports injuries to neck problems received in a car accident, most pain and physical injuries can be treated and receive significant relief in less than 10 visits.
